www.odogwublog.com reports that after months of investigation over pension fraud, 30 staff of Imo pension Board have been arrested by the operatives of state Security Services over pension fraud to the tune of N650m.
The disclosure was made in a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, who said the suspects were nabbed after an exhaustive investigation showed that they  had used 92 cheques to perpetrate the crime.
Onwuemeodo said the cheques were written in the names of people who were not pensioners which the suspects used to defraud the state government.
"About  30 Pension Board Staff have been handed over to the Personnel of Directorate of Security Services  over monumental fraud dictated in Pension Cheques amounting to N650 million naira. The Cheques in question are 92 with some of them Containing N10 million and above", Onwuemeodo said.
According to him, "most of the fake Cheques were written in the names of people who are not Pensioners or who do not exist while some are written in the names of existing Pensioners who then had three Cheques or more but only one having the actual amount they ought to have as their Pensions while the fake Cheques in their names have amounts ranging from N10 million and above".
Onwuemodo said the government commenced the one hundred percent payment on Monday, for their outstanding Pension arrears, saying Pensioners from eight Local Governments including Nkwerre, Ideato South, Njaba, Nwangele, Isu, Obowo, Onuimo and Orsu have been paid .
He said that the government has decided to pay directly to the Pensioners following the discovery of the mind-blowing fraud in the Pension Cheques.
