www.odogwublog.com reports that Illegal revenue agents who claim to be working for Anambra State Government reportedly raked in N50 million daily from petty traders, wheel barrow pushers, hawkers and bus drivers in Onitsha
Making this disclosure to newsmen in Onitsha, the state Chairman of Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme said, “it is pertinent to let his Excellency to note that his directive that levies should not be collected from petty traders, hawkers, wheel barrow pushers among others is not being obeyed”
“These nuisance who called themselves Government revenue agents extort between N350 toN459 on daily basis from petty traders each in the various markets in Onitsha while hawkers and wheel barrow pushers pay through their nose, N200 and more thereby making about N50 million daily
Commercial bus drivers are not exempted as they also pay N450 to N500 each and the revenue agents boast that even the state government cannot stop them,” he continued.
Ezekwueme recalled that, “I confronted them sometimes ago, they threatened me, claiming that they have the backing of the state Government and even petition written to the president of Nigeria will not have any effect
They are not interested in the success of this administration and actualization of Anambra State of our dream, hope and aspiration”
