Vice President Osinbajo set for Unizik for 50th Year Anniversary of Law Teachers

 

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo will arrive Nnamdi Azikiwe University for the 50th year anniversary and national conference of  Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT) which will come up between June 11 to June 16 at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Osinbajo  is to be honoured at the  event and the award is for his long service in the teaching of Law.

The national president of the association Professor Godwin Nwabueze Okeke who led members of his executive and board of directors on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the Unizik, Professor Joseph Ahaneku announced this to newsmen later during a press briefing.

Professor Godwin Nwabueze Okeke  said that the association comprises all law teachers both in the universities, law schools  and other institutions.

He said the theme of the conference is : ‘Law, Security and National Development and the key note address will be delivered by the former Governor of Central Bank, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

According to Okeke flanked by Deans of Law Faculties , Directors and Provosts , the choice of the topic was based on the prevailing circumstances in the country and the choice of Soludo was based on his expertise in policy and economic matters.

He said one of the objectives of the conference was capacity building for law teachers and it is held every year before June.

He, however, explained that the conference is not only for law teachers in Nigerian universities but for law teachers in Nigeria law schools and the Police Academy, Kano among others.

The conference, he added, is the contribution of law teachers to the development of the country. They will recommend the solutions and how to use the instrument of law for the development of the country because a nation that is not moving forward is not developing.
Besides, it is impossible to move forward without security, he said.
This is why, he said, apart from the Vice President, Osinbajo, the Chief Justice of the federation as well as all chief judges in Nigeria, especially, those within the South East region as well as legal luminaries are expected to attend. 

Others are Ebonyi State deputy governor, Prof Benard Odoh who is also a member, Attorney generals of states in Nigeria, the President Nigerian Bar Association, among others as well as Deans of faculties of law of all universities in Nigeria, Provosts and directors.

He said the choice of Nnamdi Azikiwe for the 50th anniversary of the conference is apt given the standing of first President of Nigeria, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe after whom the university is named and the fact that the first law faculty was established in the South East.
At the courtesy visit, Ahaneku promised that the university will do all it can to make the conference successful describing law teachers as superior beings in terms of transfer of knowledge and manpower.
