Police arrests 40 suspected members of Biafra Independent Movement in Enugu

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Enugu state command of the Nigeria police Force yesterday arrested about forty persons suspected to be members of Biafra Independent Movement[BIM], as they were caught displaying Biafran flags in various parts of the state metropolis.

The Enugu state police command public relations officer,PPRO, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, in a press statement issued yesterday, a copy of which was made available to 'The Authority' said the suspects were arrested by security operatives of the command in  various parts of Enugu metropolis, based on intelligence information that they were about to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace,stating .investigations into their activities have begun in earnest.


The Enugu state police command advised members of the public to go about their normal business and cautioned on the need for every law  abiding citizen residing in the state to shun acts capable of bringing them into  conflict with the law as any one caught will be made to face the consequence in accordance with the  relevant sections of the law.

Odogwublog.com checks gathered that a group of suspected BIM members from Nsukka axis of Enugu state,moving in a convoy of about ten vehicles to join their colleagues in Enugu for a procession, were waged at Opi junction and forced to discontinue on the trip by armed police men. None of them were detained by the police as was the case in Enugu.

Meanwhile the leadership of Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra [MASSOB],loyal to Comrade Uchenna Madu, yesterday dissociated MASSOB  from the intended street protests embarked upon by suspected members of BIM.

Comrade Madu stated,'The people on the streets today displaying the Biafra flag are not MASSOB members as they may claim, they are members  of Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) observing their own Biafra day. MASSOB under the leadership of Comrade Uchenna Madu will observed the 50th anniversary of declaration of Biafra by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu on 30th May,2017 with a sit at home exercise in honor and remembrance of Biafra gallant soldiers and civilians that laid down their lives for the establishment of the Republic of Biafra during the genocidal war against the people of Biafra in 1967--1970'.

'As  MASSOB  honours the fallen heroes that died during the war, we will also remember the victims of the current struggle for the actualization and restoration of Biafra.   MASSOB is not against BIM or any other group but warned that our should not be attached to Uwazuruike led BIM'.
