HIV and Tuberculosis: Health workers in Idemmili South to embark on Healthy living campaign

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Supervisory councilor, Health in Idemmili South Local Government Council Hon Dozie Mmaduabum has urged the health workers in the council to participate fully in the Healthy living campaign which would soon commence at the various communities of the Area.
Speaking during their inaugural meeting of the entire LG health workers with the newly appointed councilor, Hon Mmaduabum said that human beings were what they eat, saying that there are many sickness and death which could have been averted should people have known the proper nutrition or health values to adopt.
The graduate of public administration said that he has a vision to sensitize the rural dwellers on proper healthy living standards which include good nutrition, personal and environmental hygiene, immunization, prevention methods, family planning, HIV awareness, Maternal child and Adult health care, etc. adding that workshops, and seminars would be taken to the churches, market places, women organizations town unions, schools, etc.
“Our problem is our diet. We are what we eat. A healthy man is wealthy man. There are many preventable diseases, deaths and health crisis but due to ignorance our people become victims. We the health workers must mobilize ourselves move out to where the rural dwellers are and sensitize them on proper nutrition, healthy living and ways to prevent themselves from HIV/AIDS and other preventable diseases,” said Mmaduabum.
However, there was an interactive session with the health workers which included Primary health care (PHCs) officers in charge (OIC), sanitarians, HIV and Tuberculosis unit; water, sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) unit, directors and Unit heads of the L.G. council.
The health staff enumerated their challenges and constraints which included lack of equipments in some PHCs, lack of beds or mattresses, No electricity or alterative power supply, no water reservoir, bore holes in bad condition, no security or cleaners, dilapidating structures like leaking roofs, No driver to drive the ambulance, lack of accommodation, no placenta pit, moreover there were no preservation banks for vaccines for immunization.
The Head of department, health, Mrs. Ojei Elizabeth, praised the health staff for their effort in discharging their duties despite the inadequate working environment and urged them to keep putting their best as the wonderful mothers and trail blazers they were.
The WASH coordinator, Sanitarian Semeon Ndibe thanked the councilor for deeming if fit to convene such a meeting to feel their pulse but pleaded that although the numerous issues raised as challenges would not be addressed at once, let the L.G council management start from somewhere. Ndibe on behalf of health workers said they were willing to give every support to the new administration.
