Abia State: Ikpeazu begins reconstruction of 5.7 km federal road

www.odogwublog.com reports that in his quest to open up Aba for more economic activities and ease traffic flow in the commercial city, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, Friday embarked on the reconstruction of  5.7 -kilometer Port Harcourt Road Aba.
The road which has nearly collapsed and remained virtually  impassable for years was flagged off by the Chairman of South East Governors' Forum, Dr.  Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
Ikpeazu who regretted the agony of Aba residents as well as users of the deplorable federal road said it would be delivered in 18 months.
He further said that because of the strategic importance of the road as a major entry and exit point the neighbouring Rivers State, his government had decided to make it a six- lane road.
According to him payment for the project  will be accorded priority and made in three tranches.
Harping further on the importance of the road Ikpeazu said it would be constructed with concrete pavement for durability.
The Governor who said he was in a haste to transform the state particularly Aba which is the economic hub of Abia, also hinted that the Osisioma fly over initiated by his administration would be ready in the next 45 days.
Similarly, Ikpeazu said that his government would in two months time, commence the reconstruction of Omuma and Osusu roads to ease the suffering of the residents.
His words: ‘’The way to go for us in the South East especially Governors that agree is to do roads that outlive our tenure because we don’t want to go back to the same projects within the lifespan of our tenure and the best thing for me is to go for cement pavement technology’’.
Ikpeazu restated his resolve to make all roads in the state passable as a catalyst for economic transformation.
In his speech, the Ebonyi state Governor,  Umahi commended Ikpeazu for his massive infrastructural transformation especially road construction, describing it as laudable and key for development and economic growth.
The Chairman, South East Governors' Forum expressed delight at the number of roads already completed by Ikpeazu's administration in less than two years.

Umahi said Ikpeazu's projects were mass-oriented, and urged the people to support him.
‘’Ikpeazu is a special breed and we are marveled and excited with what he is doing. We have stolen some ideas from the state.
‘’Any Governor that is securing the future of his citizens is the Governor for today and tomorrow’’, Umahi declared.
Speaking earlier, Commissioner for Works, Hon Eziuche Ubani, explained that Aba’s revival depended heavily  on Port Harcourt road as "many artisans, major markets and anxilliary products are located along the road."
During the visit the Chairman, South East Governors' Forum was conducted round some project sites in the state including the Abia mushroom pilot programme, the Abia poultry farm, the Investment house and many on-going road projects in Aba and Umuahia.
