South East Governors, Utomi, others to attend maiden Dr Emmanuel Egbogah annual budget roundtable

Five governors of the South East states are expected to attend the maiden edition of Dr Emmanuel Egbogah annual budget roundtable slated to hold on Wednesday, 5th April, 2017 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The event is being organized by the UNIZIK Business School.
According to a press release endorsed by its Director, Prof. Au. Nnonyelu, the event, among others, was being organized to discuss various critical issues associated with the national budget and its surrounding processes, and indeed, to proffer solutions to problems for the good of the country.
He listed Prof. Pat Utomi as the Guest Speaker, while His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke, will chair the occasion. “Hon. Chris Azubogu, Deputy Chairman Appropriation Committee, Federal House of Representatives, shall present the keynote Address. Discussants include Prof. Osita Ogbu, former Chief Economic Adviser, Prof. Ben Osisioma, doyen of accountancy, and Dr Okay Ikechukwu, Adjunct Senior Fellow, UNIZIK Business School.”
The statement read partly: “Nigeria budget process at all levels of governance is bedevilled by myriad challenges and problems which impact negatively on service delivery. The common narrative in Nigeria is that federal and state budgets are rarely implemented with consequential negative effects.”
“The newly established Unizik Business School in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is committed to unravelling these aforesaid issues, and hopes to provide the roadmap that will direct, and reorient the entire mechanisms and processes involved in budget development and implementation.”
“Pursuant to this, UNIZIK Business School intends to hold an Annual Budget Roundtable, in March every year where eminent persons and discussants from within and outside Nigeria are invited to interrogate all budget issues as they affect Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Nigerian people. It will serve as our modest contribution to the national discourse.”
“Dr Emmanuel Egbogah (OON), an internationally acclaimed petroleum Engineer has endowed this budget Roundtable and will support it in perpetuity. This year’s own, that is the inaugural Roundtable shall hold on April 5th 2017, at the University Auditorium. All the Governors of South Eastern States are expected to be in attendance as Special Guests of Honour” it concluded.
