Navy Capt. Mohammed Dahiru, Commander of the Outpost told newsmen in Onitsha on Monday that the boats and products were arrested in December last year along the River Niger waterway.

He said that the destruction was carried out on April 22 in the presence of other security agencies including Nigerian Army, police, Department of State Services, among others.

``We use this opportunity to send warning signal to operators within River Niger perpetrating illegality to have a re-think as it would no longer be tolerated.
``I will continue to go after them, and I will get them, especially now that our capability has been boosted by the naval authorities.

``My officers and men have intensified routine patrols which include fixed station, stop and search.

``For those that using or want to use the River Niger waterway for legitimate activities are assured of adequate protection,’’ Dahiru said.

He appreciated the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ibas for providing the Naval Outpost Onitsha with good working and accommodation environment.
He said that the Chief of Naval Staff had also boosted the human capability material resources of the Naval Outpost Onitsha.

He commended Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra for his continued support and assistance to the Outpost.
