10 Anambra communities swallowed by erosion menace, as PHCN blacks them out for 3 years

www.odogwublog.com reports that ten communities in Nnewi South council area of Anambra State are counting their economic loss cum social discomfort following their disconnection from the national grid by the officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) three years ago. The communities are: Ukpor, Ekwulumili, Amichi, Azigbo, Unubi, Ezinifite, Osumenyi, Utuh, Akwaihedi, and Ogbodi.
This was even as they decried the devastating effects of erosion in their communities. They said that the areas have been plagued with so many environmental challenges orchestrated by the natural disaster.
This lamentation was contained in the inaugural speech of the transition committee chairman of the council area, Engr. Felix Odimegwu, on the occasion of his assumption of duty following his appointment by Gov. Willie Obiano.
“We are aware that majority, if not all the communities in this LGA have been without power supply since the unfortunate cut off by EEDC some three years ago. More so, we are aware that the erosion sites in the various communities are becoming increasingly dangerous and life-threatening” he lamented.
He however pledged to “swing into actionimmediately to repair areas that have become extremely bad while working to proactively forestall further threats in the identified erosion prone areas.”
The new chairman also pledged to focus on the healthcare delivery system in the area which he said lacks adequate staffing and drug supply.
“This shall be tackled as we will recruit as many staff as we can and enter into partnership and enter into partnership with relevant agencies for regular drug supply to the health centres” he added.
