Professor Maduike Ezeibe of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike at war with NACA,NCDC over HIV/AIDS Claims
www.odogwublog.com reports that Professor
Maduike Ezeibe of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike is now at war with National Agency for the
Control of Aids ( NACA) and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) over is claims
Ezeibe who recently invented a therapy for the dreaded HIV/ AIDS pandemic, has
said the condemnation of his work by the NACA and NCDC was borne out of envy.
Director-General, NACA, Dr. Sani Aliyu; and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, had in a joint statement Tuesday, dismissed the claims by Ezeibe as untenable.
They
said there was no evidence from the publications on the claims that
"the authors obtained ethical clearance from an appropriate body in
Nigeria to conduct this study, and only ambiguous evidence that informed
consent was sought from the evidently vulnerable patients."
But
in a swift reaction, Ezeibe dismissed the criticism of NACA and NCDC
as standing on nothing and a sheer manifestation of envy and jealousy.
The
Professor of Virology and Veterinary Medicine regretted that instead
of celebrating the scientific breakthrough, the federal agencies have
resorted to cheap blackmail that cannot be substantiated.
"
If they say my work is obscure, how come the whole world has accepted
it. I have made presentations in America and the work is already
published in reputable world health journals because even the white men
are convinced that the procedure was scientific.
"
They are only deceiving people who don't understand scientific
procedures. My therapy is not a concoction but pure science. The steps I
followed were clearly stated and any one in doubt can subject it to
scientific test."
The
Abia- born scientist challenged all those doubting the efficacy of his
claims to engage him in a scientific debate or assemble experts in the
field for verification instead of dismissing his hard labour and years
of rigorous research without superior argument.
He
, therefore, appealed to the National Assembly to intervene and help
him reap the reward of his labour and not allow enemies of progress
frustrate him.
Ezeibe
had explained that Nigeria would gain a lot if the Federal Government
assists him to secure international patency for the therapy to avoid
other countries from stealing the work.
Ezeibe
who said over 500 HIV/ AIDS patients had already been treated by the
drug also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to come to his rescue.
He
said he had already secured national patency for the drug in 2014
during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
