NAUTH Nurses Unhappy with FG over Neglect of their Plight

www.odogwublog.com reports that Nurses at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi weekend joined their counterparts throughout the  federation to protest against what they called neglect by the Federal Government to their plight.
Numbering over two hundred from different outstation hospitals under NAUTH, the nurses, carrying placards  with different inscriptions like pay nurses their teaching allowances, what is good for the goose is good for the gander, government provide a conducive environment for effective health care service delivery among others, marched rounded the  hospital premises  to Onitsha road chanting solidarity songs.
Speaking to the newsmen, Chairperson of the nurses’ Union, Mrs. Chioma Egbuonu, said they were protesting to create awareness as well as implore the Federal government to pay uniform allowances to nurses in Federal Teaching hospitals so that they would be at par with government hospitals across the country.
She explained that nurses are at the centre in dealing with patients hence the need to provide necessary tools to aid them in effective and efficient service delivery, lamenting that often times, nurses bear the blame for lapses in medical services, from patients who do not understand their plight.
On her part, Secretary of the nurses’ union, Mrs Chy Nwizu, Nwizu, lamented the stagnation of nurses in one position for six years without due promotion stressing that every nurse in a teaching hospital is a teacher hence the need to pay them teaching and skipping allowances.
On her part, the Director of Nursing Service at the hospital Lady Ada Onyeyili, noted that the protest was a nation-wide affair adding that nurses are concerned about their patients and working tools hence the need for the Federal Government to attend to their needs because they deal with human health and life.
Addressing the nurses, the Chairman JOHESU, NAUTH Comrade Ikenna Anahulu, who encouraged the nurses on their struggle for a better working condition, declared their solidarity for them.
