Ebonyi 8000 civil and public servants to get N2 billion for farming

www.odogwublog.com reports that eight thousand (8,000) civil and public servants in Ebonyi state are
to be empowered with N250.00 each for them to embark on farming
schemes.

To actualize that, the workers would only work for three days in a
week and use Thursdays and Fridays for farming.

Flagging-off the programme at the Abakaliki Township stadium, governor
David Umahi said the workers would be given soft loan of N250, 000
each for farming.

He disclosed that 4,000 youths selected from the 13 local government
areas of the state would also be empowered and called on the people to
key into the agricultural programmme of the state government for food
sufficiency.

He explained that his administration would also empower 1, 000
indigenes of the state hawking in some cities in the country.
The Chairman of the NLC, Ebonyi Council, Comrade Ikechukwu Nafor had
explained that they were waiting for the state government to allocate
land to the council for the purpose.
Nwafor in an exclusive interview with www.odogwublog.com explained that
being as state with comparative advantage in agriculture the best
option for the survival of the workers in the context of economic
hardships was to key into  farming.

“All we need is to get the basics in place. I am personally into
farming; if you have the time I will take you round my farms. The idea
of getting workers in to farming is wonderful. We are still looking up
to government for the basics and we strongly believe the government is
going to ensure that the idea survives”, he stated.

He stated that, “We want to have NLC Farms. It is better than any
other thing but you know the issue of land. If the state government
can give us land, they can even forget about money. Just secure land
for us, we shall embark on rice farming, cassava and sundry crops that
best suit our soil”.

Nwafor said that the decision to embark on farming became most needful
because the prices of petroleum products, electricity, food and every
other thing had increased except the salary of workers. Ends
