Right Reverend Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo PhD tasks President Buhari on New Year 2017, appeals to him to Protect IPOB, MASSOB members, other Nigerians better

www.odogwublog.com reports that President Muhammadu Buhari , Nigeria’s president has received a passionate appeal to do everything possible to protect all Nigerians no matter their creed and tribe especially members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) .

‘’We have the right to be protected. Our president should protect us especially the IPOB and MASSOB as well as our farmers massacred at slightest provocation. Nigerians are frustrated under President Buhari  and our businesses and economy is collapsing . We want our country to grow , we don’t want to remain underdeveloped. We are not progressing the way we are supposed to. The economy is not stable. The road network is unbearable …’’

This was the views of Right Reverend Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo PhD during his New Year message to Nigerians.

‘’I am not impressed by  the way President Buhari is handling the issue of IPOB and MASSOB and related matters like Fulani Herdsmen. He appears not perturbed by the incessant attack on communities by Fulani Herdsmen even when they invade communities and kill people. How do they get sophisticated weapons and vehicles conveying them to the villages they attack?’’

‘’President Buhari would do nothing but if it is harmless IPOB and MASSOB members, he would send Military men after them as if we are under siege. He should protect all Nigerians better in 2017 especially IPOB and MASSOB members.
Bishop Nwokolo PhD said further: ‘’Just look at how people were killed recklessly in 2016 by Fulani Herdsmen, and Boko Haram without us hearing the President speaking against Fulani Herdsmen  attacks but if unarmed group of youths protest injustices in the name of IPOB and MASSOB, the military would be sent after them and people would be killed and dumped into cells yet no investigation and nobody is punished . We feel that he is not concerned about the welfare of the people of South-East and South-South. We are Nigerians and we remain Nigerians yet we are continuously intimidated, harassed and persecuted for nothing.
‘’There is nothing wrong for IPOB and MASSOB calling for liberation , it is either you resolve their problems that warranted the agitation for their demand to leave Nigeria or you resolve to allow them go. We appeal to them to be peaceful in pushing for their agenda because it is their right to believe in something and pursue it.

Bishop Nwokolo lamented the inaction of President Buhari which has made some people to be doubting his sincerity and allege his bias against non Fulani people.

‘’What we have now is change in the negative not positive and people are suffering.  President Buhari should crosscheck his policies and check the people advising him before getting people to rescue the economy not round pegs in square holes. Nigeria has people who can turn the economy around.

Nwokolo pointed out that there is war against corruption going on but there are people who are in government that are corrupt wondering why people in government should be linked to corruption even as he urged Buhari to lead by example.
He insisted corrupt people could not be chasing people around in the name of fighting corruption, advising that people should be hold liable for offences they committed but not by selective punishment.

Awka Catholic Bishop give hope to Nigerians , insists Nigeria won’t break up
From Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Awka

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has urged Nigerians not to live in fear and despair in the midst of the economic recession, saying the country would not collapse this year.
Ezeokafor is hopeful that Nigeria would not disintegrate despite the crushing economic realities.
He advised Christians not to strive for survival with desperation, but to be optimistic that the country would bounce back stronger this 2017 , adding that 2017 would be a turning point for all Nigerians.

Bishop Ezeokafor who is the chairman, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), stated this while delivering his New Year message at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka.

He said Nigerians would attract the blessings of the New Year by shunning violence, injustice, recklessness, impunity, corruption and lawlessness.

“To access the blessings of the year, you must make sure you are part of the peace process. Wherever you live, wherever you work, be part of the peace process. Peace is built, worked for and does not just come, you desire it, work for it, pray for it and participate in the peace building process. Do not be part of the problem; rather, be part of the solution,” he said.

The Bishop also enjoined Nigerians to be agents of peace within their neighbourhoods, communities and society at large. He said the love of power seen in the life of Herod in the Bible was still manifesting in human beings today especially in the political arena.

“As the period of election in our country draws near, one sees it at work in the candidates vying for political offices who go to any length to secure and retain political power. It also shows itself in many people, whose only calculation with regard to the political process is what gains they could make out of it. For these politicians, the stakes are too high, access to or loss of political power means a corresponding access or loss of key to enormous financial and social resources.”
He said God was looking for those who would open themselves up to His love so that they might be the channel for moving Nigeria’s fledgling democracy to greater heights,  so that they can save it from all those who are desperately clinging to political power or those desperately seeking to gain access to  power and its payoff in terms of wealth, clout and prestige.

While urging Nigerians to be hopeful, he said the country would not collapse but would come out of the woods. He said the responsibility for revamping the economy rested on all and not government alone.
The Bishop also called on federal and state governments to support the promotion of agriculture so that Nigeria could achieve food sufficiency to feed and sustain her citizens.
