www.odogwublog.com reports that worried by the spate of unprovoked attacks on Southern communities by Fulani herdsmen, a member of the Board of Trustees ( BoT) of the ruling All Progressive Congress ( APC), in Abia State, Prince Benjamin Apugo, has tasked security operatives to disarm all nomads with arms.
Apugo who made the call in his Umuahia country home while fielding questions from newsmen after receiving the new leadership of Ibeku Egwuasaa Development Association ( IEDA), said the impunity of herdsmen could no longer be excused and challenged security operatives to rise to their constitutional responsibility.
He argued that since according to Northern Governors' Forum the rampaging herdsmen are from foreign countries, security agents should no longer watch them wreck havoc on innocent Nigerians and go unpunished.
The APC chieftain said there should be proper screening of all herdsmen with a view to identifying and bringing to book those with arm who he accused of perpetuating violence against innocent Nigerians.
He canvassed support for President Muhammadu Buhari, saying " he is the best for Nigeria now" , and poised to rebuild the infrastructural decay in the South East geopolitical zone.
He also urged South East to embrace APC as a party which has its interest at heart.
But when asked why he had not used his influence as APC chieftain to secure the release of his kinsman and leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra ( IPOB) who has been in detention since 2015, Apugo said Biafra could not be actualised through propaganda.
He expressed strong support for the new IEDA National Executive led by Chief Princewill Ukaegbu.
Later in an interview, Ukaegbu who said he " is the authentic President General of IEDA, regretted that Ibekuland had been polarised by politics but promised to work hard to re- unite the clan.
He called on those opposed to his emergence to embrace peace in the overall interest of the clan , promising accept and work together with all those ready for peace.
