Anambra to establish health centres in 326wards

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Anambra state government on Wednesday said it had concluded arrangements to set up Primary Health Centres in the 326 wards across the 21 local government areas of the state.
 The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike stated this in a workshop organized by a non-governmental organization, the Civil Rights Concern.
 He said that was an intervention the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano had introduced to bring healthcare to the grassroots.
The commissioner said already, no fewer than 63 health  in the state had been upgraded to world class standard.
He said the intervention would be spearheaded by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency.
Akabuike noted that the healthcare system in the state was neglected for a long time, adding that that was why Obiano was deploying radical approach to reform the system.
“We didn’t have an organized system before now. What we had was a horizontal and vertical disintegration of the system.
“To reform a system takes time; you may not see the result immediately, but I can assure that this administration is doing great in that sector, the commissioner stated.
 Akabuike who enjoined those deployed to such healthcare facilities to be dedicated , deplored a situation were some stakeholders in the health sector in the state for selfish reasons would drag the state government to court to stop it from implementing policies that would benefit the masses.
 He said “If you put conscience in whatever you are doing, you would do it well”
In his  remarks, the Director of Civil Rights Concern, Mr Okey Onyeka decried the deplorable condition of public health facilities in the state.
 He called for an increased budget in the health sector as well as regular presentation of budget performance in the area to enable stakeholders to evaluate it regularly.
Onyeka specifically condemned the state of a Mental Neurological Centre in the state , saying  would urgent attention..
“There is need to renovate the facility at Nawfia. It has no good security, it’s threatened by gully erosion, no effective water supply,dilapidation of many structures and cannot handle the number of patients coming for attention”, the NGO stated.
