Anambra NLC demands full implementation of minimum wage

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra Ctate council, has called on
Governor Willie Obiano of the state to implement the national minimum wage for workers in the state.
Chairman of the NLC in the state, Mr Jerry Nnubia made the demand when he led the new executive of the council on a courtesy visit on Governor Obiano.
“The upward review/ increase in workers salaries has become extremely imperative considering the harsh economic situation and rising cost of things in the country for which the static salary earners are at the receiving end.”
The union also demanded the cancellation of contract appointments of retired officers in the civil service that was introduced by former Governor Peter Obi to enable serving officers to reach the peak of their career for the unemployed youths to have employment.
He appealed to the governor to wade into the problem of the local government staff that have not been able to be upgraded to GL 16 as their counterparts in other states and the federal service.
Besides, Nnubia who appealed that the 2014 promotion exercise result should be released, called for the establishment of Local Government Pension Management Board in line with the new contributory pension scheme as provided by Anambra State Pension Reform Law 2013.
Nnubia  requested that the July to October 2014 salary arrears owed some council staff should be paid them.
