Anambra State Water Corporation & ANSEPA 8 years salaries and leave allowances arrears Cleared by Gov. Obiano

  

The Anambra State Water Corporation and Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency (ANSEPA) became moribund following a trade dispute over non-payment of staff salaries and leave allowance by successive government before the administration of Gov Willie Obiano in March 17th 2014.

The dispute stated in 2000 under Gov, Mbadinuju administration. 

In 2007, Gov Peter Obi paid the sum of ‪#‎200m and no other payment were made after that.

The two govt agencies were subsequently “abandoned” while ANSEPA was dissolved to set up the present ASWAMA—Anambra State Waste Management Authority. It is important to state here that some of the staff of both organization were now either in the employment of ASWAMA and other govt civil service ministries while some other staff were not so lucky.

Anambra State Water Corporation had a total of 970 staff and were owed 48 Months’ Salary and 8 years of leave allowance totalling #1,502,997,239.76bn.
ANSEPA had a total of 157 staff and were owed 25 months’ salary and 8 years of leave allowance totalling #360,140,213.00m.
Both payments were released through First Bank of Nigeria totalling #1,863,197,452.76bn.

Gov. Willie Obiano in keeping with his promise to transform workers fortune in the state whether under his watch or his predecessors has graciously paid the total stated above to the National Union of the two govt agencies as full and final settlement of these salaries and leave allowance which were inherited from Gov. Mbadinuju’s administration to that of Gov Peter Obi.

In addition, Gov. Obiano has set up a committee to make sure that the payment went to real staff and workers and not ghost staff and workers.
A new bill is now before the House of Assembly that would revitalise the Water Corporation and make it more functional. Gov. Obiano is aggressively pursuing the Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka greater water scheme. Onitsha water scheme is almost ready to be completed.

Gov. Willie Obiano is seriously focused in taking Anambra State to a better height and I am proud of his achievements so far despite the lean financial resources in the state govt coffers. This is a govt with a human face and feeling to re-write what was wrong in the state irrespective of whose debts it inherited.
